What is an MRI Scan?
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a safe, painless, and non-invasive diagnostic test that produces highly detailed images of organs, soft tissues, bones, and internal body structures. Unlike X-rays or CT scans, MRI uses no ionizing radiation. It works by using a powerful magnetic field and radiofrequency pulses to create precise cross-sectional images of the body.
MRI is considered the gold standard for imaging the brain, spinal cord, nerves, muscles, ligaments, and tendons. It can detect conditions that other imaging methods may miss, including early-stage tumors, spinal disc problems, ligament tears, stroke damage, and organ abnormalities. At Kedar CT & MRI Centre, we use a 1.5 Tesla MRI machine, the same clinical standard trusted by leading hospitals across India and the world, to provide you with the most accurate diagnostic results.

Why 1.5 Tesla MRI Matters
Tesla (T) measures the strength of the MRI scanner's magnet. Our 1.5 Tesla MRI is the globally accepted clinical standard, the same technology used in major hospitals worldwide. A stronger magnet means sharper, more detailed images, leading to more accurate diagnoses.
Kedar CT & MRI Centre is the first facility in Barmer, Jaisalmer, Balotra, and Jalore to bring this advanced 1.5T MRI technology to the region, eliminating the need for patients to travel hundreds of kilometres for quality diagnostic imaging.

What to Expect During Your MRI Scan
An MRI scan is a painless and safe procedure. Here is a step-by-step guide to help you understand what happens during your visit to Kedar CT & MRI Centre.
Check-In & Safety Screening
When you arrive, our reception team will check you in and verify your doctor's referral. You will be asked to complete a safety questionnaire about your medical history, any metal implants (pacemakers, surgical clips, joint replacements), allergies, and current medications. This screening is essential because the MRI uses a powerful magnet.
Preparation
You may be asked to change into a comfortable hospital gown and remove all metallic items like jewellery, watches, hair clips, belts, and keys. If your scan requires contrast dye (gadolinium), our technician will explain the process and administer it through a small IV line. Our fully air-conditioned facility ensures your comfort throughout.
The MRI Scan
You will lie down on a cushioned motorized table that gently slides into the MRI scanner. The scan typically takes 20 to 45 minutes depending on the body area. The machine produces rhythmic tapping and humming sounds, which is completely normal. We provide earplugs or headphones for comfort. Our technician monitors you throughout via an intercom system, so you can communicate at any time.
After the Scan & Report
Once the scan is complete, you can resume your normal activities immediately, as there is no recovery time needed. Our experienced radiologists carefully analyse your MRI images and prepare a detailed diagnostic report. In most cases, reports are available the same day. Emergency scans receive priority reporting.
How to Prepare for Your MRI Scan
Proper preparation ensures the best image quality and a smooth experience. Follow these guidelines before your MRI appointment at Kedar Centre.
Remove all metallic items like jewellery, watches, hair clips, coins, keys, belts, and hearing aids.
Inform our staff about any implanted devices like pacemakers, cochlear implants, surgical clips, or metal fragments.
Wear loose, comfortable clothing without metal zippers or snaps. We can also provide a hospital gown.
Certain abdominal MRI scans may require fasting for 4–6 hours. Our team will inform you when booking.
Bring your doctor's referral or prescription along with any previous scan reports for comparison.
If you experience anxiety or claustrophobia, inform us beforehand so our staff can help you feel comfortable.

One of the biggest advantages of MRI over other imaging methods is that it uses absolutely no ionizing radiation. While CT scans and X-rays use controlled doses of radiation (which are medically safe), MRI relies entirely on magnetic fields and radio waves, making it safe for repeated use, including for children and pregnant women in many cases.
If your MRI requires a contrast agent (gadolinium), it is generally very safe and is naturally flushed from the body within 24 hours. Patients with known kidney conditions should inform our staff beforehand. At Kedar CT & MRI Centre, we follow strict international safety protocols to ensure every patient's well-being.
- No X-rays or ionizing radiation used
- Safe for repeated scans and long-term monitoring
- International safety protocols followed
- Contrast agents (if used) are naturally eliminated by the body
MRI is Safe
MRI has been used safely in hospitals worldwide for over 40 years. It is recommended by doctors globally as the preferred imaging method for soft tissues, the nervous system, joints, and internal organs, all without any radiation exposure.
MRI vs CT Scan
Both MRI and CT scans are powerful diagnostic tools, but they work differently and are best suited for different conditions. Here is a quick comparison.
Your referring doctor will advise whether an MRI or CT scan is more appropriate for your condition. Kedar CT & MRI Centre offers both.

Have questions about your upcoming MRI scan? Here are answers to the most common queries we receive from patients.
Most MRI scans at Kedar CT & MRI Centre take between 20 and 45 minutes, depending on the body part being scanned. Simple scans like a single joint may be completed in 15–20 minutes, while complex studies such as Whole Body MRI, MRI Spectroscopy, or MRI Angiography may take up to 60 minutes. Our technicians will inform you of the expected duration before the scan begins.
Yes, MRI is one of the safest diagnostic imaging methods available. Unlike CT scans or X-rays, MRI uses no ionizing radiation whatsoever. It works using a strong magnetic field and radio waves to produce images. MRI has been used safely in hospitals worldwide for over 40 years. However, patients with certain metallic implants (such as some older pacemakers or metal fragments) must inform our staff before the scan.
Tesla (T) measures the strength of the MRI magnet. Our 1.5 Tesla MRI is the globally accepted clinical standard used by leading hospitals worldwide. It offers excellent image resolution for diagnosing conditions of the brain, spine, joints, abdomen, and blood vessels. The 1.5T strength also provides better compatibility with medical implants and produces fewer image distortions compared to higher-field machines, making it ideal for a wide range of patients.
Yes, a doctor's prescription or referral is recommended for an MRI scan. This helps our experienced radiologists focus the scan on the correct body region and clinical question, ensuring you receive the most accurate and useful diagnostic report. If you have a referral, please bring it along with any previous scan reports.
Yes, in most cases we provide MRI reports on the same day. Routine scans typically have reports ready within a few hours. Emergency and urgent scans receive priority reporting.
